I have been sorting out the 2009 pennies and setting them aside (those in good shape). Is it worth it for me to do this exercies. What I am finding is the the 2009 presidency coin is in extrememly short supply in my area. I sorted through over 175,000 pennies and have only found less that 200 coins. I finding equally low counts over the remaining mintages. I think that it is worth it to continue to set these coins aside for future use.

Any opinions welcomed.

Over time these could gain some value, as their mintages are notably low. But as of right now, I think they are only going to be valuable if you have them in solid BU rolls or boxes.

I've been looking into collecting all 20 different 2009 pennies in the highest grades, it seems like a bit of a feat. I was planning on getting more 09 mint sets and sending some in for grading, but I don't want to ante up for boxes, or even rolls to get the rest, seems like an awful lot to put up to put together some sets, but this is probably the time to do it if uncirculated box prices are finally coming down, which I'm not sure they are. Also, I don't see how even high grades of this year would be worth anything with how many will never be circulated.

I've filtered quite a few of these out of circulation, as they were released I was able to build some of my own BU tubes of these, but they were very hoarded. Out of my last 6 boxes searched, I averaged 16.8 2009 pennies per box. I'm finding less worth keeping for anything, bad shape, but I've got a nice glass jar full that are fun to look at.
