Hmmmm...this one just popped out of a roll. What is it? There's no writing on the flip side...just an elaborate looking coat of arms kind of thing.

Well, that beats the 1943 Aussie 3p I found a couple months ago in a penny roll. Isn't it great getting SILVER from a penny roll? Now, if we could only get some GOLD coins in our penny rolls....

Yeah...Hey, aren't 1/10 oz AGE's about the same size as a cent? That would be nice. :P

And thanks for the link/info, Henry

Congrats,

Was it sticking out a bit. I find that british coins are slightly bigger than normal pennies.

Bye,

I was at the coin shop talking about my find and was told it was an old tradition to put that coin in a shoe or something...can't remember...but it had to do with an old wedding tradition. And I think that is where the phrase "Sixpence none the richer." comes from....and the same as some sort of musical group.

I traded mine for a merc. I have since found a few more in a feebay coin lot or two.....and bought a few outright.

The old saying was:
"Something old, something new...
Something borrowed, and something new...
And sixpence in her shoe."

Obviously an old tradition from England... and since we don't have sixpence here in the USA, that last line was just dropped from the tradition. My wife had a sixpence in her shoe at our wedding, and I put that particular one in a special marked 2x2 so it doesn't get mixed back in with my British collection. :)
