Anyone else notice on the 2012 D

Postby DebtFreeMe » Sat Apr 14, 2012 12:52 am

Has anyone else noticed on the 2012 D pennies that the out millimeter or so of the background (the part that is usually flat) is warped, almost like the metal didn't spread out correctly when it was struck and it looks like ripples? I've compared them to the nice shiny 2011's and they have a perfectly flat background. Actually, comparing them to multiple years I can't see anything like it on other pennies.

All the 2012 D's that I have in my current load of pennies seem to have this same "defect?" Anyone else have the same?

After going through some more of them it looks like an error that was getting worse as it went along... I found several where you almost don't notice the problem, then as they progress on they get more and more obvious...

I hope tomorrow to be able to find some that a very pronounced... Maybe put together a little time-line sequence from a fine looking penny to an error in the making...

Now that you mention it, yes, could have sworn I saw one of these the other day, showed it to my wife, but can't recall if it was 2012? Could have been a 2011??? :?

Wonder if it was on earlier strikes and now is more common. Dang! Now I gotta pay more attention to the new Zincs, too!

Thanks for bringing this up!

I try and put it on my scanner... With them being very shiny I'm not sure if it will show up... I'll try in later today...

Yeah I noticed, interesting difference in the two. I finally had a bunch of 2012D come through after I'd had two almost full boxes of Philadelphia over a month ago.
