15-pound Brinks boxes!

I haven't bought pennies since Christmas, but now that my new, improved (and SPACIOUS!) penny-sorting shop is almost ready to go, I went into a fairly new--to me--bank and asked for a couple boxes. When the head teller asked if that was all I needed, I requested a third box. I'd purchased from this branch a couple times in the past, and received String boxes. You can imagine my dismay yesterday when the teller placed three Brinks boxes atop the counter. I smiled and acted grateful.

Well, before I found a place to dump them I decided to weigh the boxes. Woohoo! They ranged from 15 pounds 2 ounces to 15 pounds 6 ounces. Thar's copper in them thar plastic rolls!

Yes Indeed! Assuming that the cardboards box and wrappers weigh the same as string boxes, your percentage should be between 30% to 36%.

tinhorn,

Why wouldn't you want brinks penny boxes? Get them all the time, have plenty of copper in them.

I agree. I prefer Brinks over String.

I'm sure he's referring to the supersorter turn-on and the resulting elimination of copper from many brinks boxes. I had it happen to me several times to the point where I've stopped actively looking at banks that use Brinks. Doesn't mean they are all copper free, but as long as I've got other choices I'll look elsewhere.

Yup, 68Camaro's right. I'd been getting skunked on Brinks boxes. Maybe this means they filled their order and are out of the sorting game! Maybe?

I prefer String to Brinks

Its easier to open rolls, better chances to find BU 2012's (hard where I live), and generally higher %'s

I can only get Brinks and a local independent that wraps their own change. The only Brinks skunk was all 2011 new. Most average 22-28% and I got an 1884 IHC from a Brinks roll last week.

Tinhorn- Not to veer to far off the topic, but I would love to see some pics of your new penny shop once you have it up and running. Your previous area was AMAZING!
