BEST $25 PICKUP EVER - just got BETTER!

I was having some friends over tonight, and wanted to show them the ol' Ryedale at work. Went to my best pickup bank: $50 bags, at least one per week, and they always save them for me, straight off the machine. They told me they didn't have any because they had accumulated several bags, and... "well, since you didn't come in for a couple weeks, we sent them off." ARGH! I asked if they have my number, and they repeated it back to me... (so I thought, that's exactly why I gave you my number but whatever)
Went to another good pickup bank: $50 bags right off the machine, no account necessary, bags always have a handful of dimes. "Sorry, no bags today, but we do have these rolls that someone brought in." Oh really? :ugeek: Can I see one? It's hand-rolled with scrap paper. And the paper is all ratty, like it's been eaten on by insects. And it's been sitting for years.

Oh heck, I wanna describe the feeling I had, but let's just look at the pics. I think you will get the idea:

So... I haven't opened them yet... just the one I opened at the bank. I hope you like suspense. So long story short, I think I might have someone's accumulation/collection. The only downside is that I still have no coins to throw in the Ryedale tonight. Might have to make another trip.

Oh, and one more thing. Before you ask, the answer is YES. I did ask if they brought ANYTHING else in that I could buy. No dice.

I'm not gonna post the results for, like, 4 days.

WAIT A MINUTE!!! Really? Remember that first roll that I opened in the bank? I decided to see what exactly was in it before I opened any more. All copper, dated 1969 through 1976. Almost all Denvers, except for a 71S, two 74 plain, and two 72 plain. Wait, this one looks a little weird. Let me get out the magnifying glass. Ta daa! Using http://www.lincolncentresource.com/ it looks like a 72 doubled die #3 or #6. Opinions?

I need a better option for really high resolution pics. My scanner just doesn't cut it.

I just had my first crash course in taking pics with my camera through my magnifying glass. A little better views, but not much. Still, it's certainly there. I think it's a DDO3. Jasmatk, I took a lot of pictures, and none with the date came out worth a darn. There is some doubling there too, but it's less noticeable than IN GOD WE TRUST and LIB of liberty. That would be because it's a class 1 clockwise rotation, so stuff nearer the rim would be more pronounced.

OK, I KNOW this is a bogus story because you said you(a) have FRIENDS, and(b) own a ryedale. ha ha ha really had us going there! Nice pickup by the way, when I ask for CWRs I look at the lock box from across the counter while they have it open to see if I can spot treasures like you found.

Oh, because the two are mutually exclusive. I get it. Well, for what it's worth, they can't come over. Turns out I have bronchitis, and one of 'em has two pukey kids.
But after opening 3 rolls, they ARE 100% copper, and I haven't found anything newer than a 1978 yet. The few 77's and 78's I've spotted are bright and shiny. Of course the scanner doesn't do them justice, but see some for yourself:

Fifteen of the fifty rolls opened - and date sorted. I would say 80% from 70-79. A few 1980-81, and the rest from 1959-69. Only one 1982, and only ONE wheat - 1955D.
Ninety zincs, but those were all from 3 rolls, all of the same type (the shotgun rolls on the top right of the first pic). I surmise those were the coins added to this stash before they brought them in. Or they may even have been from another customer altogether. The rest are 100% copper.
As I said, I am date sorting these. Because of the 72 DDO in the first roll, I am going back to lincolncentresource.com to dig up some more fun stuff to check for. Who knows, you might see some of these in next weekend's KSA!

What are the chances you have a 1972S and a 1973S for your friend with two pukey kids who couldn't come over tonight, who is trying to fill the bingo books YOU gave him? Hmm? Oh, and I'm still missing a 1982 copper small date. :)

I was gonna suggest you watch out for the 1960P and 1970S small dates, but looks like your already on top of that...

I have extras of probably everything you are missing from 1934 to 2012. I've been collecting pennies for over 30 of my 37 years circling the sun. But I thought you might enjoy the search - the challenge - a little more than me just handing them to you. Err... I mean... selling them to you. 8-)

Hey, I've filled every slot in the books from 2012 back to 1959, save those three! I want to fill those last ones in, so it's easier to focus on looking for A) copper or B) wheaties. :D I'll be patient though, and find them myself. :)

That's something I can get behind! Just remind me the next time you're over and they're yours.

25 rolls done - the halfway point. I have been savoring these, opening them slowly, and enjoying the slow discovery... some highlights
1. still only one wheat.
2. at least two each of the 1969-74 S mints, and one 1968S. That seems high for $12.50 worth of copper. And keep in mind that the 68S is the lowest mintage of all Lincoln Memorial circulation cents.
3. one absolutely pristine looking 1974D. My birth year.
4. six rolls - all the rolls of one wrapper type - have included 198 zincs as new as 2011. No other rolls have had ANY.
5. most of those zincy rolls have been OVER by 2-3 coins. One had a dime. So even the bad is pretty good.
AND MY FAVORITE SO FAR...
6. one nice lamination, shown below.

Updating from the wife's Kindle tonight so no pics.
But after 34 rolls... and after only 1 wheat up to this point...
1 roll had 3 wheats and a 1907 beat-to-heck Native American.
It also was packed with 8 1959's.
16 more fun rolls to go.
