It must be the time of the year. I got pennies from 2 drives last week.

The first one my bank was tickled pink that I wanted to buy all of them. The teller was just starting to crack rolls and fill bags to ship out. Didn't find anything special, pretty much mirrored what I normally find in bank boxes. Was kinda hoping to find some older stuff, or at least a higher percentage of Canadian. I thought every one would utilize the drive to empty out the jars and cans full of the Candian coins everybody accumulates.

The second apparently had people buying and donating whole boxes for the cause. I bought 3 unopened CWI boxes from the lady who was dumping her drive's coins into the lobby coin counter. She had already dumped the CWR's.

It's typically where a school, church, Boy Scouts or some other organization seek donations in penny form.

What a good feeling to have piles of pennies fall at your feet like this!

I snagged over $200 as well from a local school penny drive a few weeks ago. Then the following week another $100. A few wheats and about the same % of copper, but you never know what might pop up. ;)

Likewise, a penny war is when competing teams (Class grade levels in a school for example) try to sabotage the other teams totals by dumping "silver" into the other teams collection of pennies. The silver deducts from the copper total.

For example, if Team A's jar has 125 pennies ($1.25), but Team B decides to dump a Susan B. Anthony dollar coin ($1.00), Team A's total penny count drops to 25 cents. Dunno how it works with the Sacajawea and Presidential Dollar coins as of late.....
