I have been sorting three box a week for almost a year, started hand sorting and switched to the ryedale ace. The coin machine at our bank rejects any older wheats so I always tell my girlfriend to check the rejects after she dumps our pennies. Friday she came out of the bank and handed me the rejects, I started looking and saw the normal 20's,30's and one 1919 wheat then I saw IT. My first Indian Head penny, it clearly says 187?. It is either 1873 or 1878, it amazes me that this was still in circulation after over 125 years.

She always checks the reject tray prior to dumping to and there was an odd wheat. It is a 1951D, the edges of the penny are raised on both sides. I am assuming it is damage or something post mint but it is still perfectly round so I dont know what would have caused it.

You need to look up the die varieties for that;
the 73 had several die varieties, some of which would earn a decent filler value

HA, when I first started hand sorting she was sorting about a box a week. She has not really been sorting but she does still dump my pennies for me

No, keep her as your girlfriend. Once married who knows what's going to happened.
