Simply Filthy Pennies!

I sorted 2 boxes of pennies during the last couple of days. Gotta say that these are among some of the dirtiest pennies I have seen in a while.

However, dirty as they were...I ended up with a decent yield of coppers, and almost 20 wheats! I wonder what the other 2 boxes have in store....?

I hate dirty, sticky coins. Especially when I get CWRs that look like somebody cleaned out their car cupholders and under the seats and all the coins are stuck together.

Water fountain and snow pennies.

Chemicals react with the zinc and screw them up. Even does a number on the copper. Salt and chemicals from snow removal and chlorine (and other chemicals) from water fountains do this.

I finished the last 2 boxes I had. Gotta say I had decent copper numbers and many wheats! Throw in the mix a few Canadians, and...a penny from Espana! Talk about a party!

These boxes were also a bit dirty, but otherwise ok. Had to wash my hands a few times after these!
Now to keep going on my nickel project :)

After getting boxes with so many 2012's in them, when I open a box and see dirty coins, then I know I have a good box. I use orange goop with pumice for hand cleaner after sorting. But, yeah, I was in my sisters car a couple of weeks ago and I was picking through some of her change, and yeah, she had plenty of soda soaked change, just terrible how people just throw change around.
