Penny Wars

So during the last full week (last week) of my kids elemantary school they had a penny war between the grades K-5 to raise money for charity. You put pennies in your grades bin to add one point per cent. You put all other coins and bills in the other grades to deduct points from them. A nickle = -5 points, dime = -10 etc.
So I asked the Principal, who goes to our Church, "Can I buy the pennies?" They were excited to get rid of them. So I go there last night with my Downey-Johnson to count them. There was $440 worth and I spotted a bunch of wheats while counting. Since they wanted to know how each grade stood at the end of the day they were also counting them and sorted out three Indian Head cents and gave them to me as well. That brings my tribe up to 11 since last November.
I counted off $25 and ran through the Ryedale and averaged 23.6%. Not too bad. I should get at least $100 FV in copper. I also took all the nickles they collected, $47.50.

Wow, nice haul! Isn't it a good feeling when you can help someone out and get a pile of coins to sort in return? Congrats on the IH tribe you have, I think I can hear them dancing and chanting up here in Nebraska :)

Sweet deal. Since you know the principal, try to help make a "penny war" last the whole school year next year.

I got the pennies last month from a similar "war" at the local catholic school. They send all of their "fundraising" change to my favorite bank. Yep, my favorite bank that lets me buy their bags. I think that war got me an extra dozen 50$ bags! :D

Nice score.

I ended up with a bunch of wheats but "0" indian heads! :(

Contact a local charity and see if they're willing to hook up. Offer to do the counting and redemption of the coins pro-bono.

Thought this was about a new TV show on A&E, a la Storage Wars.

Way to go, though.
