I found my first 1909 VDB yesterday. It's in really nice shape. I've never been so excited about finding a penny. I've found 5 Indian Heads this year, but this is my first 1909.

That must be exciting! My wife and I have sorted about $600 worth and our best finds thus far have been a 1911s, 1919 no letter which I think means Philly. And a mint token that says denver mint uncirculated on it. How much do have to go through to find a indian head? I still haven't had any luck with that.

Congratulations! Especially to find that date as a VDB in nice condition is especially exciting. Hope you (and I ) find more of them!

I haven't found and '09s but I have increased my yield of early wheats.

I have noted on several threads and my own experience that the handy little Ryedale sometimes spits early wheats out with the zincs. The only solution to this little annoyance, for me, is to handsort all cents for wheats. This can be done very quickly when you are looking at only the reverse. I then run all remaining cents through the Ryedale on a zinc accept. once the zincs have been set aside for return, I then run the coppers through a copper accept. Works for me.

Personally my first run is a copper accept then I run a zinc accept. During the zinc accept I'll get some ugly zincs and the older wheats. The second run is my favorite. Whenever I hear a reject hit the bucket my heart quickens :)

Whatever method works for you. As long as you are doing what you can to maximize your yield.
