AMAZING 2000+ Wheat Pennies in One $25 Penny Box!

PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 5:59 pm

Hey everyone. I have been coin roll hunting nickels and pennies up here in Canada for about two years now and currently get two boxes of pennies every week to sort through. This week I had my most incredible find to date. One of the boxes appears to have well over 2000 Wheat pennies! I have never found anything close to this before and thought I would share it with you all. I make videos of all of my finds week-to-week, so you can see the box and the contents of the first 5 rolls in this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdgeDOvPmHA

I also took a few pictures:

I will keep this thread updated with the totals as I go through the box.

I have not made my way through the entire box yet (I know, what am I waiting for!?) but I will certainly keep an eye out. I might need some of the experts on here to let me know if any of them are rare, since I must admit I do not know that much about Wheat pennies.

Thank you very much guys! Glad you enjoyed it so far.

I am putting the first video together now of the results for the first 250 pennies.

You are definitely right. I am going through them now and they were definitely put into the rolls by decade and mint mark.

CanadianCopper, when we find two or more indian head pennies it is sometimes called a tribe.

It appears to me that you could consider your find, "An Indian Nation." <G>

Thank you, I am very glad that you enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy the others. It is very satisfying to go through them. It sure beats getting the 3-8 that are usually in a box. ;)

I have not come across one yet, but I am still holding out hope for an Indian Head. I have yet to find one in two years of coin roll hunting.

Here are the results for the first five rolls. There were a lot of Wheats from the teens, which was pretty shocking. The other interesting thing was that there were 255 pennies in total, which means there were 51 in each roll instead of 50.

1910, 1914, 1916x15, 1917x20, 1918x34, 1919x29, 1930x4, 1934x11, 1935x12, 1936x22, 1937x15, 1938x16, 1939x23, 1942Sx1, 1944Sx11, 1945Sx1, 1946Sx8, 1947Sx1, 1950Sx1, 1951Sx21, 1952Sx2, 1953Sx4, 1944Dx1, 1950Dx1

Here is a video of the results and some pictures that I took.

So you found 2,000 wheats in Canada? How does one pass off so many US cents in Canada, if you tried to take back 2000 King Georges that would stop you or deduct your account if they found out.

Either way nice haul!

Looks lie he mentions some in his list and movie- but it seems only the ones from the 1940's and later have them

Hey guys. So sorry that I have not been able to update the thread. The end of August was extremely hectic for me as I tried to finish work and then prepare to move across the country (of Canada) for school. I was able to film and take pictures of the results before I left and I finally have my internet working in my new apartment, so I post the full results with the pictures and videos now.

jacer333 wrote:Awesome haul, thanks for posting the pics :)

Thank you jacer! Very glad that you enjoyed the pictures.

Thank you! I have never had any problem taking American pennies into a Canadian bank. I would say that 10-20% of the pennies in an average penny box our Americans. That said, I am fairly close to the border, so I am sure that makes a difference. Very interesting though!

henrysmedford wrote:None with mint marks?

A lot of the later rolls were primarily D mint marks from the 40s and 50s. There were also a few S mint marks as well here and there.

henrysmedford wrote:You should post your finds here. http://www.realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=16719

Darn! Just missed August. Thank you for posting this Henry.

Yeah, it is pretty much all hand wrapped rolls from the boxes of pennies and nickels that I get. Although, yesterday I picked up a box of dimes that were all machine wrapped rolls. Unfortunately all 2012s.
