The bank called and-----

The bank called and said an old lady and her son came in with $85 in rolled cents the father had died and they found them in the closet. Most of the rolls are stamped from a gas station that was torn down in 1975. One of the rolls was wrapped in newspaper with houses listed from 17K and up. You would be hard pressed to find a home for under 150K today. As you may know, my son Franklin is the one who goes through the rolls, and I will post what he finds tomorrow. Also, I peeked at two rolls. There were no wheats, and nothing newer than 1974.

BULLY!

What the hell is Wrong with these old bats!?

They really all believe the oldman is/ was a moron!.

I'll bet he is the happiest he's ever been. No matter where his soul is.

Congrats.

We should start an "elderly old widow just threw her late (yet happy) husbands coin collection away and now I'm happy "thread

I absolutely LOVE picking these up!
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

Very nice! I should put in a request at my CU and see if they would notify me when people bring in CWR like this!

PS I did ask if there was other coins. And the teller said if there was they would have mined them first for silver. It the only bank that I have seen with a Branch copy of the large print Red Book of US coins.

I could not help myself and went through 10 rolls not one newer than 1974 a few AU ones and only one wheat. Look like some one saving copper in 1974.

Nice score.
Isn't 1974 the year that the US Mint first considered changing the metal composition of cents?

Yes
From -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_aluminium_cent
History

In late 1973, the price of copper on world markets rose to a point where the metallic value of the cent was almost equal to its face value.[1][2][3] The U.S. Mint, which produces billions of cents annually, was faced with a potentially catastrophic operating deficit, due to issues of seigniorage. As a result, the Mint tested alternate metals, including aluminium and bronze-clad steel.[

Wish i could get a setup like that , My bank dumps all coin thru coin counter.
One teller did notice some steel cents an called they did allow me to buy two bags that time, that was two yeas ago. I will Talk to other Small Bank in town about buying rolls as they are my source for $5.00 or $10.00 on a occasional basis.

Isn't 17,900 still the price for a house in Oregon? I gotta get me a "Sleeing room" I don't have a sleeing room. What does one do in that room? Is it a special room for part of the penny sorting process known as sleeing, or is it a penny free room?

And if you are over twenty-one and not to prudish and need a good laugh and click on the link you too will know what Sleeing is. :mrgreen:http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Sleeing I just found this out after a Goggle search. :o

Ah yes, now I remember the 70's. Maybe that wasn't a typo in that newspaper roll.
