Im done

Postby lance » Wed Sep 19, 2012 5:57 pm

I spent 1 year of my life sorting and now im in a situation where i have to sell. I cant even get 1.2 for these. Off to the bank a little bit at a time with over $1000 fv in copper pennies. What a waste of time. Live and learn i guess!

I don't know the details of your situation, but barring some emergency medical or job problem, could it be that you simply invested more than you should have in this endeavor?

1000 in FV? Wow, that's quite a few! I wouldn't look at it as a waste of time though....although I don't know your situation, either. Something beyond your control I imagine :?:

You can easily get 1.2 after shipping or very close right now.

Shipping should be roughly $15 per $100 face and you can move them quickly at $135/$100 face.

Also depending on where you are someone may be willing to drive for in person pickup for 1.2x.

You could if you shipped them. The odds of somebody on this board being close enough for local pick up are slim. And you were asking 1.4 for local pick up, which is what they normally go for shipped.

$140 - $10.85 postage = 1.29x face net

Ok, so shiping is even less than I randomly guessed (I used to know but USPS has raised prices a few times since I last worried about it).

So even at $135 per CTU you are netting $123. Not bad! And probably less hassle than multiple bank runs :)

+1 I would consider doing a local pickup for 1.2 face.

And you can pick up the "Knight in Armor" thing that Lance has at the same time :)

Assuming he didn't sell it.

And pick up some plasma from Lance at the same time.

I'm just brainstorming ways to monetize the road trip!

All of these divorces....why do people want to get married again? How about just living with someone and forget all this marriage stuff!

For me, a road trip down there would be at least 4 hours....from Madison, WI

Sorry about your situation. That's unfortunate. I think most however sort and stash for a time to sell much farther in the future. At least that's my goal. I don't expect to be able to make any money off copper anytime soon... but years down the road when pennies aren't even being made anymore, I think these have a little bit of potential.

On the bright side for other sorters... sounds like 100,000 coppers are going back into circulation ;)

+1

If you want to sell something quick, overpricing it is rarely the best option because it turns off potential buyers. IMHO, they would have flown out the door with an offer of 1.3 shipped or 1.2 local pickup, but now that people were turned off by the initial high prices, they'll pass up even a fair deal and wait for a good one.

Unless you're strapped I'd hold on.
Copper is bumping it's way back into the higher digits and may exceed what it did before.

You've had plenty of helpful responses now so I would recommend taking advantage of these opportunities to make some extra cash on your copper hoard.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you are starting to see some hope, from the responses you've gotten so far.
