Am I reading this right? They sent a VDB to Mars to use to check their imaging? If that's correct, why wouldn't they have sent a nice cheap zincoln?

1909 VDB still only worth about $2-$25 Uncirculated, article said why they used the 1909.

I realize they are not too costly, but IMO all they needed was a known image, and didn't need to send a 1909 when a zincoln would have done just as well. They still spent $1.99 to $24.99 too much.
