I found a wheat pennt that hes the one edge clipped off, at first I just assumed it was post mint damage but then I realized that another penny fit tight into the clipped part like a puzzle piece. It makes me think that a die came down to cut out a penny and caught the edge of the penny I found. Are these common? Is there any way to be certain that it was a mint error and not post mint?

Its called a clipped planchet. It would have happened when the blank planchets were punched from the sheet stock, before minting.

No recent wheat ones for me recently but 3 or 4 memorial clips in the last couple of months.

I find clipped planchet coins pretty regularly. Most of what I find are Jeffs that have very minor clipping, but from time to time I find cents or dimes also. One must be careful when authenticating these coins in light of some damaged or altered coins appearing very similar, even under 10x magnification.

I think they are quite cool. I hadn't found one in a long time, then I found them in two bags in a row last month.

If you have a printer that includes a flatbed scanner, lay the penny flat on it.
Scan a picture into your computer.
Go to a site like flickr.com or photobucket.com, get a free account, and upload your pic there.
Once done, right-click on your pic on that site, and select copy image location.
Come to Realcent and hit POST REPLY on this thread.
Right-click on the input box, select PASTE, select the address which appears, and click the little IMG box at the top.
That will place brackets around the web address of your pic.
DONE.
