Got some rolls today and ended up with 10 rolls of 2010 "shield cents"and 10 mixed rolls.I was just going to take the 2010s back to the bank,but I see people are paying a premium for them on ebay...what gives? isnt the mint putting out like a billion of these?are they not distributed in some areas?just wondering.... Ill take copper any day over these!

I get a shield in almost every single roll I search.

Shield pennies are about as common in my area as elbows and other parts of folks' anatomy. Who knows.

I got one box of pennies at the bank about a month ago. Opened and saw I got 50 rolls of 2010P shields, plastic wrapped, looks BU. I hardly ever get a full box of pennies as always found better success with customer wrapped rolls which I get 10 at a time at the same bank. So, just put it aside, not knowing what to do with it.

Anyway, I was shocked when I just went to Ebay completed listings and found out that you are right. The shields are SELLING at 2X. Makes no sense at all. These things are NOT RARE, in the Northeast at least.

Yeah, plenty of them in Missouri as well. Oh well. Instead of questioning it, why not take advantage of it? I have a bunch of them laying around (post-sorting) and was going to take them to the drop-bank this morning. Maybe i'll reconsider....

The gov is turning out the shields so there will be ample supply of cents in circulation when they lift the melt ban for us

I have sold a few boxes on ebay that I have found. I usually get 1.9 - 2.2X for them. Got some individual rolls I might put up also.

And just think the 2009 log cabin cents were fetching 350.00 a box for a while when they came out. I only managed to find 140-150 rolls total there was not 1 bank withing a 60 mile radius I didn't hit up every week searching for those buggers. Most any new coins will bring a slight premium in unopened rolls from the bank on ebay. It is a little bit of a pain but if you want to make a quick couple of bucks instead of turning them back in it's worth the effort.

mind blowing Its gotta be people that have no clue they are seeing some differnt style cent and havnt got one in change and obviously dont search or they wouldnt pay 2x forget about the countless rolls ive sent back to the bank in the past few weeks ive been geting shields in change almost every transaction all year ive got a few in change but now its a shield bonanza

I'm not worried about making a profit on the shield cents when I get them....I'm just glad if I can get rid of them and get my cash back to buy more rolls worth searching.

Union Shields used to be more rare then they are now believe it or not. Now it shouldn't be 2x it should be 1.3x according to my *ahem* *pushes glasses up* calculations.

yes, the 2010s have a following. the other day i was at one of my supply banks, and a teller saved one for me - cuz she knew i liked old coins. so, the design has made a hit with people.

I believe you. Last year I didn't find any, this year I have found a bunch.

Some people just like to have BU rolls in unopened wrappers. Not my cup of coffee but others seem to enjoy them.
