Curious if the "RYEDALE Blue APPRENTICE" on ebay is a knock off or original
Im looking to get a Ryedale here soon, for as cheap as possible.

It is original but for now only available on eBay.

If you plan to try to wear it out, the blue one might give you the best bang for your buck. If you think you might resell it, the red one will hold its value a little better.

It might also be a good idea to hold off on your order until Andy finishes the new PCB board which will provide added features.

I think they're basically the same machine, but since the blue ones were priced low to compete with a knockoff they don't seem to hold their value as well. Another thing to remember is if you contact Andy through realcent and offer to save him some money on ebay fees, he'll probably give you a better price. Once you take that into account, the red one really doesn't cost much more than you'd pay for the blue one through feebay.

When I was looking to buy I remembered my grandfather's advice to always buy the best tool you can afford. The Maxx is black, by the way.

Same basic machine, but with speed control (a "go fast" knob) and a counter.

Once you factor in the resale value, yes...at least in my case.

It all depends on how you plan to use it. I've run close to half a million coins through mine, and could still get back at least 75 cents on the dollar. It still runs like new and the only thing its starting to need is a $10 coin cup, which is a normal wear item.

engineer, check out the one on ebay and let me know if thats the one you use, red,counter on it, $225 so far. i would just have to pay andy for the new upgrade hes working on that way i see it.

That's an older version machine with some admitted problems. I'd count on needing at least a coin cup plus whatever it takes to fix the speed control which hasn't been addressed and could die at any time. With that being said, it could be a decent buy if you're up to repairing the rheostat without help.

Otherwise, it could cost you more in maintenance than you'd lose through depreciation on a new machine.

I bought both of mine from Andy on eBay, auction format. The first one was $394 (Apprentice) in May and the second was $315 (Apprentice Plus) this month.

The Apprentice Plus has the 2-channel coin counter and speed control dial, which is nice. I have already run half a million pennies through it.
