I have recently found 2 pennies 1 a 1973, and the other a 1979, that both weigh 2.55g, but they sound almost identical to Canadian pennies. Is it possible they are Zinc, or could they be US cents on Canadian planchets.

It could be a thin planchet cent. We found a 2.46 gram one see -- http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14744&hilit=+thin Is yours thin.

It could be a cent struck on a planchet intended for a foreign coin also. In the 1970's, the mint was making 5 Sentimos coins for the Phillipines. They are 60% copper, 40% zinc, and weigh about 2.5 grams. Might pay to have them checked out/certified. Sounds like lightening does strike twice in the same spot! Congratulations on a couple of cool finds.

Now looking at them the 1979 does look a little thinner than normal, but the 1973 is just as thick if not thicker than any other cent I compare it to.

I also found what I think are two error coins, one is a 1988, where the Lincoln memorial and the word United are "imprinted" over Lincoln's face on the obverse.

And the other is a copper penny full weight but you cannot see a date or any of the words on the front, only a outline of Lincoln, also you can see the Memorial showing through on the Obverse.

i am sure scans would help you guys out a little more, I will try and take some tomorrow.

Do any of these have any value?
Thanks.

Sounds like it was struck through a capped die, it's an error and I've sold them for about $10 each but they seem to do better on ebay if they've been slabbed by PCGS.

We have found a struck through a capped die and have a photo posted of the one we found here struck through a capped die
