i got out of copper cents a while ago and i have such a good thing going at work that i can get 8 free roll searchers a day. most of these rolls are great some even have 2-3 wheats in them. i wanted to do it again just because i had so much fun doing it in the past. i was wondering if anyone on here sorts the copper cents for them self only with no intentions to sell in the mediate future. just doing it for yourself not to sell.

I do it for myself. You don't really want to sell at today's prices.

What is all this talk about sorting pennies? I thought all pennies were copper.

Forget going back to 1981 or Jan 1st of '82, lets go back to Jan 1st 1964 for just one day and take a nice huge stack of FRN's .

I sort for both reasons. I sell some if the price is right. Most of my sorting is to hold until the price is right or I need to sell to eat.

I sell some every so often for 1.8X. Anything less is not worth it.

I do it for the fun and relaxation. I have to admit that there is a bit of a numismatist(sp?) in me- they don't make cents with this metal compostion anymore (like the steel cents of 1943). I was too young to pull the silver coins out in '64, so I think I'm getting a second chance with the coppers. I'm not selling..... my kids may one day, but I'm not.

Because I am a hand sorter I have to invest too much time and driving to sell them at today's prices. So for now I just enjoy the fun of finding those wheats and hoping that I come across a key date someday. It could happen because just last week I came across my first Indian Head (1900 date). You never know what's in that next roll. 8-) 8-)

Seaching and sorting makes for inexpensive entertainment on rainy days.

I love sorting to find the wheaties. The rest of the coppers, I keep all of them. In due time, there will be few coppers left, and we will look back longingly to the time now when we could sort. At that time, the Rydales will be at peace.

Hoard on....

I am holding on to my coppers for the next 20-30 years. I am curious to see how high copper is by then. Keep hoarding! :)

I hold on to all of mine.
I really enjoy hand sorting. I have no machine to help but then again if I did I wouldn't be able to get rid of all those zinc's. The banks don't say much about the pennies but do I get the dirty looks with the halves. I dump at 4 different banks 1 week I picked up 2 boxes of halves so I split them up into $250 at each bank and 1 bank said I hope you don't have to many more halves and another said she had someone bring halves in every week and they had to start charging him. I try to split 1 box between 2 banks 1 week then the other 2 the next week. My source bank will order all I want as long as they are ordering for themselves. So far there were 2 weeks they couldn't order for me.

8-) . I haven't sold any, like many others I am using as a hedge against inflation. My parents did not see the big picture in 1964 :(. I am hoping that this hobby will benifit my family in the future.
