Just confirming that as I haven't put any effort into looking for next year....we are getting more of these ugly shields in 2013 right?

Hm I actually like the shield design. Not as good as wheat but better than memorial. Of course they're still disappointing to find...

I agree with this; it actually looks quite aesthetically pleasing to me. I've had dreams before of what it'd be like if the 95% coppers used this design -- I'd jump all over those coins. Just imagine the 1968 (the best copper penny because of its obverse relief) with the shield design on the back...oh lord I'm such a penny nerd but this just sounds amazing to me.

I wonder what the mintage figures will be like for 2013 and further into the future for the penny (and nickel). Any chance they'll scale back because of the administrative production costs?

In 2009 the mint made made some copper shields in somes set and one nice set is the Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set then are one EBAY for about $150 see-- http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=Lincoln+Coin+and+Chronicles+Set&_sacat=0&_from=R40

With much anticipation from most who have heard about it, the US Mint on October, 15, 2009, issued the United States Mint Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set. Five coins are within the set, including a proof Lincoln Bicentennial Silver Dollar and four proof 2009 Lincoln pennies that feature redesigned reverses.

2009 is being celebrated as the bicentennial of the birth of Lincoln. It also marks the centennial of the release of the first Lincoln penny back in 1909. In celebration, Congress mandated the creation of these new coins that have met almost unprecedented demand upon their release.

The Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set was highly sought after. Only 50,000 of the sets were issued and all sold out within 30 hours. (As of this writing, there is a wait list open for the sets.) A household ordering limit of 1 had been set in place for the $55.95 issue priced set.

The Silver Dollar in the set is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper while the pennies will be struck from the same alloy of the original 1909 cents with 95% copper and 5% zinc.

I dont think they made any copper shield cents. they were minted in 2010 and they only did the copper in 2009 to commemorate the 100 year anniversary

Do the new cents really come out in February? I'm still holding onto the hope that they dont come out at all this year!

Only if you're lucky. If you get them really early you can actually sell them for a good premium and convert to copper or silver.

I limited out on these..

I got some today... but not nearly as many as I wanted. I got a few rolls in our daily armored car delivery and I know which bank sources our coins. So I ordered 24 boxes to pick up today figuring now that the new cents are out it would be nice to get several boxes while they still have some value. Apparently my timing is off.. as usual. I got a little exited when I saw some shiny ones through the holes in the peekaboo boxes while we were doing the cart to cart transfer in the lobby.

Seems the bank gets their pennies from several sources.
Out of 24 boxes I got:
11 boxes of mixed brink wraps in the standard brinks boxes.
10 boxes mixed cents in peekaboo boxes
2 boxes 2012-D in peekaboo boxes in brown paper
1 box 2013-D in peekaboo box in N.F String & Son paper.

The 2013 box was dated Mar 8th
One of the 2012 boxes and a lot of the mixed boxes were dated Mar 13th.
I guess I should have ordered last week

Then at lunch I got 2 2013-D cents in change.. They are everywhere.. except where I go to get them.

No Problem.. I will just process these tonight and get another order next week. I will "just sort more!"

I have a sealed box of 2013D. Should I sell it? Could I make any money? Anyone want some?

I found 3 of the 2013 pennies in CWR's this week and they didn't even look as good as the 2012's. Looked like they had been in circulation for a while.

Yes, sell it immediately.. they are worth less every week.

I got a few more rolls in the daily coin drop yesterday.. time for another order.

i got a roll of 2013P a couple weeks ago. It was 1 roll when I was buying less than a box looking for CWR. Couldn't sell as an unopened roll because the shield was showing on both ends.

I haven't found any 2013 pennies, nickels, or dimes yet, but ironically (since I don't usually search them) I did find 3 2013 quarters in a $500 bag I searched today (they didn't have my usual order for some reason). Indeed, they don't look very good at all. Faded and almost white-ish. Very strange. I'm sure they'll be showing up for the other denominations soon; it was about a year ago I started searching and I think there were already 2012s at that time...

I picked up 3 boxes & 15 bank wrapped roills in RI this weekend. I opened 2 of the rolls and they were mostly 2013s. Funny thing is that there were also 6 wheaties in those rolls dating 1913,1918 and 1928 and others. I would like to open all of the rolls but we will see.

I got a box of 2013-D's two weeks ago. This weekend I found one 2013-D in a customer wrapped roll and then another one in a bank wrapped roll. It didn't take long for them to get into circulation and back into rolls at the bank.

Picked up another 24 boxes today.. in the search for the elusive lucky 13's, They were all in the peekaboo boxes.. but it was a lousy die cut.. so I couldn't peek inside. As I opened each box of circulated cents.. and found the occasional roll of 2013-D's.. I started thinking.. I'm gonna get me some boxes of 13's.. if I have to build them one roll at a time. Then I found 2 solid boxes of the 13's. Seems they were dated about 2 weeks earlier than all the other boxes I got. Sometimes my timing is not perfect. I ended up with 2 boxes and 19 rolls of the good stuff.. and a little over 21 and a half boxes of grist for the sorters. Someday I will get lucky and get a decent amount of them. But heck, where would challenge be if I could just get solid orders of them?

Remember.. "If the pennies you are getting aren't shiny enough.. just pick up more.. lots more!"

On opening day if found 3 2013's in a CR. Here it is the weekend and those three have multiplied into over 180. The odd thing about most of these coins in the inside rim on the obverse side appears to nicked by some sort of action.

I'm keeping these until I find something better.
