Finished My First Two Boxes

Postby algae21 » Tue Dec 25, 2012 1:33 pm

I had a pleasant Christmas Eve sorting my first two penny boxes and watching Christmas Movies until 5 AM. I've never done boxes before but I think it went fairly well:

8 Canadians
23 Wheats
1268 Copper

I figure that's just about 26%. I did get a nice surprise with a couple of wheats from the teens; a 1916-D along with a 1919. I've saved wheats since I was a kid and finding early ones have always given me a thrill.

Merry Christmas everyone!

26% is pretty darn good and teen wheats are hard to beat, keep searching!

I hand sorted a box the other night myself! I found 10 wheats, 4 canadians, and.....a decent percentage of the coppers. Not sure of the exact number, but I'm guessing around 30 percent or so!

Are you looking for errors and varieties, too?

Some decent extra hunting dough is out there!

Feel free to ask.......anyone what to look for.

Nice finds! I just finished box 3, so I'm not too far ahead of you. I'm only finding about 15-18%. Good luck!

I do take a better look at the wheats but don't have enough time to check the later memorials. The eyes are pretty well shot as well, so even pulling certain dates to take a look at is impossible without a loupe. I just can't see the dates like I could 30 years ago. :(

I have 2 more boxes to sort this weekend....what will I find in them? An invasion of Canadians? Or perhaps some Wheaties for breakfast....

Either way, every copper found makes the hoard that much larger....

One of two boxes complete! I found 10 wheats, 5 canadians and about 30 pct coppers! Not bad. ;)

The 2nd box was conquered tonight. Among the casualties.....20 wheats, a handful of canadians and a healthy percentage of coppers....close to 30 pct! ;)
