Canadian ratios

Postby scyther » Tue Jan 01, 2013 8:22 am

For those of you who live in Canada, what percent of pennies that you search are copper/zinc/steel? What percent of nickels are pure nickel/cupronickel/steel? 80%/50% silver/nickel/steel for dimes, quarters, and halves?

Just curious...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

33.86% of the pennies that I sorted in 2011 and 2012 were copper, as can be determined from my two posts in this thread.

The percentage, that my calculations came to for zinc pennies sorted in 2011 and 2012, is 41.73%.

The rest, 24.41%, of course, would be steel pennies.

For pennies, I am around 45% these days of copper pennies.

For nickel, I am around 10% of .999, I do not keep track of the cupro-nickel ones.

I do not search quarters and dimes as the boxes tend to be short (1-2$). I did a sample of four boxes of quarters looking for silver and I found only one 50% (1968).

Cheers,
