Sorting out 2009 and 2010 cents...

I have been sorting out the 2009 and 2010 cents since first finding them... This week I had the opportunity to get them all organized, and noticed I only have 2 or 3 of the 2009 type 3 Denver. There are loads type 2, both Philadelphia and Denver... still getting quite a few of the type ones... sporadic type 3 and 4. But for this one type - type 3 Denver - They're not there. Anyone else noticed a shortage of one or more? Or is anyone else even saving these? I have been saving them because, well, I usually save all the current year's cents, and then at some time after the start of the following year, I go through them and save the best 50 from each mint in a roll. Or if there is any talk of an error / newly discovered mint variety etc, I have a lot of them to check through...

I haven't been saving any of them to be honest. I've been getting solid 2010 boxes pretty regulary and they don't seem to sell very easily.

I do like the new design for the 2009 and 2010 because it makes it easier for us handsorters to get through our pennies faster. Not sure if anyone else agrees?

Here in the midwest, I hardly ever get 2009 cents of any type, which really stinks. And when I do get them, they have spots all over them, so I can't even put it in my Dansco folder for my collection. And no President types AT ALL. Same spotty problem with the 2010s, although, there are plenty of those everywhere.

On another note....I do like you as well for saving the best 50. But I sort them immediately out and make sure they are near perfect (I require at least MS-63 or higher with no scratches/dings). Each year, I sort two rolls of every type of coin of every mint (P & D). I do two rolls of each, so that I can hopefully sell one, which will pay for the 1st roll etc. Somehow, I really like the idea of sitting on perfect MS coin for 10/20/30 years and then pass them onto the kids/family etc.

Here in IN, I get lots of type 2 both mints, plenty type 3 (more p than d), a fair amount of type 1, and not very many type 4.

I was sorting the nicer ones at first, then I just threw them all back in the zinc buckets

I've been pulling all 2009 and 2010 cents- 2009 due to the lower mintages, and 2010 as it is the first year of issue. I haven't paid attention to the mint marks on the 2009s- just throwing them in a bucket for now. But I have noted that I'm getting all 4 issues.

youthminsta, I got 5 LP3 D's this morning in change fresh out of the roll...will send then your way. For the availability of 2009's and 2010's in Houston we have plenty of the five different coins...all D's of course. Now check this out and be warned....this past summer I got a box of dirty rolled 2010's...sorted out the new 2010's and saved them in the box...two weeks ago came across this box and all the pennies have little check marks on them...yuck...dumped em in the green machine for my extra 10buck cert.

I was saving all the 09's at first, but now only the best of type 1 and 4. 2010's go back in the zinc pile.
