Obtaining Canadian Pennies & Nickels

I have the opportunity to travel to Canada (CA) with some friends who go often. I've also collect(ing)ed CA currency to make this trip worthwhile.

My question is, having never done so what is the best source of CA cents and nickels in order to obtain the ones with value?

My guess is it can't be a whole lot different than here in the states and pick up boxes at the bank.

I am located near Syracuse and will most likely enter CA at Wellesley Island south of Ottawa. If there are any Realcenters in this area it might mean an opportunity for a F to F meeting to swap, trade, exchange stories/coin and enjoy each others company for a while. Not sure when it will happen, most likely later in the spring.

Ask your friend to ''secure'' some pennies, ahead of time. As of 4th Feb, the pennies will be returning to the Mint.

For nickels, you probably simply have to tell the bank ''in advance'' how many boxes you want. The best again, is give cash to your friend and ask him to start stockpiling for you.

Cheers,

Be ready to see brand new nickels. I tried this and found about half of the boxes of nickels were freshly minted ones. The best finds came from CWR's.

Good Luck!!

Gentlemen:

Thank you both very much. I will consider your words, prior to going.
