I recently moved over 250 miles from home to college, and currently my only banking is back up home. The other day, I lost my wallet on a bike ride around campus and with it I lost all access to my money. I am supposed to come home this weekend but without any money, this wouldn't have been possible! Lucky for me, I had $140 in zincs waiting to be dumped and this will provide me with enough money to get back home. I wouldn't have guessed I would be using my zincs as an emergency fund, penny hoarding definitely has its benefits!

Cool! I keep a small box of rolled up zincs in my car for those times I'm running on empty and need a few bucks of gas to tide me over 'til the next fillup.

Coin sorting is a great way to use your emergency fund money. $1K sitting in a bank at .25% will make you $2.50 a year, while the same $1K turned over every week in dime searching will net you $20.80* FV in 90%...the equivalent of 50% APR at current prices.

Any Clad for that matter is great for keeping at home for that "emergency" cash we all should have. I believe most sorters have figured that out by now. I like to leave the clad halves for the kiddies to spend.

I know that feeling of cashing in...probably one of the most foolish things I've done with my money, but at least my wife let me buy silver with it!
