anyone seen one of these?

Postby madman326 » Tue Feb 05, 2013 10:36 pm

found this a month or so ago in some cwr. the obverse and innards are missing. complete edge is there though.
has anyone seen half of a penny like this before? not sure how good pics are. the silverish (zinc?) that you can see on the inside is a very thin film or layer that is not completely attached or pressed to the reverse. i could probably lift it up and maybe out with an exacto blade.

Looks like a cap that would snap over a plastic button on a heavy coat?

I bet a dime will fit nicely in there ... ta-da! It's a magic coin. I have one that I found in a bag of cents with a Mercury dime inserted in the hollow.

Well, half a magic coin anyway.

Yes. I found one a few months ago. All raised rim and no image. Thought it was a blank.

Yes, I've seen them too. Those are used to conceal dimes in magic acts.

Okay now that I see the other side I think I've seen those where you can snap a penny inside it, then you'll have a trick penny with both sides being "tails"?

I found one last week and it's 1945 penny cap. I wondered what it came from.

I have a bunch of those i half dollar size. yes, they are absolutely magic coins. Put a dime with a penny back and this penny in your hand. Close your hand, rub them around, let the dime fall into the penny hole. Then open your hand and only one coin is left. You can even lift it up, as the other side of the penny shows like a penny, since the dime had it on the other side. I do it with a english old large penny (real penny) and the half dollar WOrks most of the time, and people like it.

I've got a magic nickel where you can put a small amount of water in it. When you press one side of the coin the water squirts out of it.
