So the little island girl calls me today and tells me that an elderly woman came in with $154 in pennies to cash them in. She said her hubby passed and it was time to clean out his junk. Of course I told her to snag them for me.

About 1 in 3 is marked "wheat". I thought I would try my luck with 2 of the ones not marked just to get a sample of what I had. One had 14 coppers and 36 zincs. The 2nd were all wheat even though they were not marked.

1918 - 2
1919 - 2
1920 - 1
1925 - 1
1926 - 4
1927 - 4
1929 - 2
1930 - 5
1931 - 1
1941 - 2
1942 - 3
1945 - 1
1947 - 1
1950 - 3
1951 - 8
1952 - 3
1953 - 3
1955 - 4
1956 - 1

Not bad at all for a "non wheat roll" :D

I don't really have the time right now to hit them hard, but I will have something interesting to do when I have some down time.

I don't know if I'm happier for you Joe, or the old bastard who rolled those coins.

He is in a MUCH better place now, whatever that place is.

Sweet score. I need to get more tellers in town to let me know when a score like that comes in. I'll keep you posted if anything like this turns up.

What about all those other nasty rolls of silver looking coins marked "JUNK" silver. I'm sure she wants to get them out of the house too so she can get the old man's mess cleaned up. You know he always had those goofy coins spread out all over the place. Might as well dump them at the bank too. You know cash in all those rolls of silver dimes at the bank for $5.00 per roll instead of getting $120.00 per roll like you should get for them. That's what my wife plans to do and she tells me that. She says all my rolls of Mercs, Rosies, walkers, war nicks, quarters, and even the Morgans and Peace dollars are going straight to the bank the day after I drop over. I just tell her if she is that stupid go ahead and do that. There will be one very lucky bank teller that day if they realize what she is bringing in.

I printed out your post and put it on top of our coins with the "Thogeyisms" in the closet on top of the coins so the wife will have something to read when I die. See --http://www.realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19089&hilit=+widow#p178116

I keep telling her that. I tell her don't worry about the coins. Just leave them where they are at and let the kids worry about them 25 or 30 years from now.

Ron I need to meet your wife. We can work out a deal that I will just bring her the cash, and she can save a trip to the bank and the gas for the car.

Since I normally only handsort between 20 and 30 rolls a week I don't track them, but thought I would track this batch just to see what I end up with.

First 20 rolls sorted and ended with 4 rolls of wheats, 12 copper and 4 zinc. If it holds to that high of a percentage of copper I'll be happy.

Major Gratz Bamajoe!

I've been developing my fav tellers for years now. Aside from here, one of my best sources for coin.

Love the idea of the "Thogeyisms" in the closet on top of the coins". No need to reinvent the wheel here. Thanx Joe.

2nd 20 rolls sorted and ended up with 5 rolls of wheat, 13 reg. copper rolls and 2 zinc rolls.

Total thus far: 9 wheat rolls, 25 reg. copper rolls and 6 zinc rolls.

I guessing that except for the wheat the guy wasn't really sorting out the copper from the zinc. The solid copper rolls just happen to be pennies he saved and rolled pre 1982. The last penny I've seen so far was a 1991 so that might be around the time he died.
