My know who could have it if they/he wanted to, but as of this time what is the biggest copper hoard you know of? I mean anything over a few tons would just seem like too much even if the price was right. you don't have to say who just what a know or have heard.
I think 3 tons is the biggest i've heard.

I haven't heard any numbers, but why would three tons be too much if the price was right? Could you define a "limit" for holding silver bullion? If copper pennies start getting traded like silver coins do, I know that I'm going to kick myself that I didn't hoard more. I'm interested in seeing the replies to this thread, but I just don't understand how you can think someone can have too much copper.
That reminds me of a question and answer between a reporter and John D. Rockefeller. The reporter asked him, "How much money is enough?" He gave a great reply. "Just a little bit more."

I meant probably like over 5 tons but do see your point. I think a ton is a 55 gal drum so i guess 10 tons wouldn't even take up that much space

Email the Portland mint and see what they have available. I doubt any big hitter would want to put it out there just what their sitting on.But I think its more likely over 3 tons.I'd bet there is more than one member over 3 tons.

Thats right slick, and I am not saying I have 500 tons...but I do have my barrel o pennies and it is taking longer than I expected to fill it. Life keeps getting in the way of sorting. And the fact that my CU is charging 8% to dump in their counters...ugh...have not paid to dump yet...just haven't dumped. Double ugh!

that's why I put "what you've heard" sort of like a sneaky way. I don't think portland keeps that much on hand to sell, they can just " get it" in a day or so if they need it.

I know what I have. I know what other members have (ball park) but would rather not say. I will say 10 tons is not uncommon.

As for more than 3 tons...I know at least 10 people, other than myself that have more than that.

HIGHROLLER... curious. Is this eBay item for publicity, or do lots this size actually sell? If they sell, then the answer is... there are quite a few people with multi-ton hoards.

Lots of this size don't sell on ebay. Ebay lots for me are just used for cheap advertising.

I thought so... because really, who is spending a half million at once on copper... in coin form? But is it a fair to ask, what are the five to ten largest cent lots you HAVE sold?

I think Highrollers got a great thing going in theory (not sure actuality because I havent seen biz financials
). Seriously , for a sophisticated, investor, I think he looks credible and can provide sufficient tonnage that perhaps, no one else
openly can.

all this talk about multi-ton hoards makes me feel less proud of the couple coffee cans and brinks box full me and my kids have hand sorted in the last couple months....
oh,well,you gotta start somewhere right?

To me, it makes me feel the exact opposite. Thanks to the efforts of the big boys, copper pennies are being vacuumed out of circulation, and exposure to the Cu circus is exponentially increasing. Were it not for those guys, us little sorters would have to pull out additional millions, if not billions, of pennies, and somehow come up with an idea to advertise the damn things.
As long as I can still get the copper that I want, I say good luck to those
high rollers, and keep those listings a-comin'!

I basically only have one word to say about this....awesome. Good for highroller and anyone else that sorts and keeps precious metals, which is real money. After all that the goobermint has done to the american people in the last one hundred (or more) years with debasing the (metal) coins/currency plus inflation, as well as the corrupt bankers of the first, second and third national banks of the US (going back to 1781), I say it's time for you to get yours. Hoard any and all metals that have value, as it's one of the the few hard tangible assets that will be left if/when the SHTF.
If you're unfamiliar with real currency (precious metals) and the history behind it, then pick up the book deal here that you've seen advertised (The Creature from Jekyll Island) and start educating yourself.

I agree Corsair the only way we are going to make any big money on our copper is if the percentage in circulation continues to drop and lifting the melt ban won't hurt either. I hope the percentage of copper in circulation continues to fall but I think it is falling VERY slowly. I haven't sorted for a few months. But ever since I started sorting three years ago my percentage has always run between 25 and 30 % it doesn't seem to drop. I know some of you would love to get 30% and I am not complaining but as each year goes by and new zincers are added to circulation you would think more coppers would be pulled from circulation and our copper should increase in value. It has been almost 30 years since the last copper penny was made. Maybe with copper pennies selling at 1.5 to 1.8 cents apiece now we are starting to see this happen. I just wonder if we do get to 2 cents apiece how long we will be able to stay at that level. The last time we were at that level it only lasted a couple of months.

The most important thing is that with every penny removed from circulation, it makes a dent. Very, very small, but a dent nonetheless. So when people are able to remove pennies in lumps of 25 million instead of just one or two, it's a bit more serious. With every year that passes, billions of coppers are hoarded, lost, destroyed, melted or just forgotten about. We've seen the peak in percentages. It's only a matter of time.

I sure hope so. It would be great to get $100.00 for every $25.00 brick I have stacked up. But the even bigger thing is I will be able to tell my wife "I TOLD YOU SO". She thinks I am nuts and makes fun of my "playing with pennies".

uthminsta: They are people who seek half a million in physical copper as an investment. I am not going to state my biggest sale, but it was more than a few tons.
Corsair and NDfarmer: You guys are right. The more copper that gets pulled out of circulation means the more zincs that government has to make which means they are going to loose that much more money. I belive within 3 years they will stop making the penny.
Misteroman: Like I said you can call me anytime! $250k face value is 83 and 1/3 tons.
