I just finished sorting my best bag of pennies so far. It seems to be the second half of what I found in another bag 2 weeks ago. Here's what it had:

239 Wheat pennies, including:
122 50s
79 40s (including 4 steel 43s, including one 1943 D)
20 30s
10 20s
7 10s
1 that I can't read
12 Canadian (all copper)
Probably a bit over half copper; maybe 60% if you count the wheats

And most importantly... one 1894 Indian Head penny! It took 11 months and 212,500 pennies, but I finally found my first Indian Head! Unfortunately, most of the pennies in the bag were pretty dirty, and a lot are in really bad condition, including the wheats. It's weird that wheats usually seem to be in pretty good condition for me, but not here. So that's unfortunate. Still really happy though.

I have been so busy lately that I haven't sorted any pennies since new years.

That's awesome! I got two bags from my bank this week and I still have to sort out the wheats but it seems better than rolls.

I used to search rolls before my bank started giving me bags. It seems bags are slightly better, even ignoring the possibility of shield boxes.

Yah, right now I should be able to get roughly two bags a week from one bank. And then $200 total from other banks in my area. I'm in a smaller town so there arent too many banks to work with.

I've inquired about buying 'bags' of pennies at my bank and they have no idea what I'm talking about. They only have rolls. Are bags of pennies a credit union thing, or what do I need to tell them?

They're bags from the coin counting machine. If they have no idea about bags, I'm guessing they don't have a machine? Anyway it's not just CUs.

I have checked dozens of banks all over town and there are only 2 that will sell me bags from their coin counter. All the rest only take coin from customers and just send them off to be counted somewhere else and your account is credited later.
