100% Copper Brinks Box

I have a buddy that texted me tonight. He picked up 4 Brinks boxes from a single bank and ran them, one of them had 100% copper pennies. The others were normal percentages of 25-27%.
All were wrapped in plastic sleeves in sealed Brinks boxes.

What are the odds?

Low odds. Someone quit collecting copper, or the old man died and the wife returned all his coins. Ended up rerolled together. I've had 100% copper bags before and high percentage boxes (+80%), but a 100% box is sweet indeed. Good for your buddy.

That is crazy! Did the box look the same as the other 3?

Probably too early for it to get to your buddy, but I dumped 5 bags of copper not too long ago. Couldn't bring myself to roll them without hidden treasures to entice me, so I decided to dump the extras and roll as I go.

What hidden treasures do you find rolling cents? And why not just sell them?

Better to quit while you're ahead. Or less behind than you would be. Copper isn't going much higher, it's probably going lower, and they aren't going to repeal the ban. As soon as I can get another box to round off my total, I'm done.

I would call this short-term thinking much like a company worried about keeping their quarterly reports happy for the shareholders, or perhaps you were stacking for the wrong reasons.

Me? It's a long-term hobby designed if for nothing else the preservation of value. If something else, then perhaps things made from the metal or a barter item. Who knows.

Don't give up now! Nothing has changed in the fundamentals of why we all started doing this. Honestly, the daily copper price has 0.00001% impact on my motivation to stack copper cents each day. Maybe not tomorrow, perhaps not next year, but someday in the future these little copper discs will look like gold :)

I don't know why my comment about not sorting anymore was posted here. It was supposed to be posted in another thread (about the copper price) where it would have been relevant.

I haven't sorted a box of pennies for several months now. I did go through about 10 FV the other day, just for something to do....

I still save any coppers I find in change I get.

My focus has been on silver!

Im working my way through $800 of pennies that came in from the same guy. Its has about 80% copper so far. The bank calls me when they get in big hauls and don't want to pay to ship them out.

Internet has been down a few days.
But to answer blackrabbit: All 4 boxes were sealed Brinks boxes and all rolls were in the shrinkwrap plastic. They all looked the same. Just one box was all copper. The others were the standard 25 - 27% copper. Like I said, Go Figure?
