Anyone suggest a brand of tape that works best for shipping? Or brands to avoid.
Thanks!

I am a big fan of Staples standard packaging tape.

I use reinforced paper tape for most things nowadays, but if you are looking for clear packing tape, I like this stuff:

According to my Amazon order history I have gone through at least 144 rolls of the stuff

I've used "name brand" tape and cheap generic tape. The key I found is to keep in mind tape is c-h-e-a-p compared to a busted box, lost content, opened package.

Use it, and use a lot of it. You should be fine.

When I ship CTUs I have NO LESS than 3 complete directional wraps. For example: One wrap overlapping top to bottom around all sides. Then another overlapping around top and bottom the width of the box, then rotate 90 degrees and do again. I often will reinforce the inside with overlapping strips in 2 directions so that the whole inside is covered.

i bought a lot of 2 or 3 in wide tape at harbor freight, clear packing tape, and i use a lot.

i also buy strapping tape, less wide, and use a good amount, and put the cheap packing tape over top of it and perpendicular, etc.

I wouldn't rely just on the cheap tape or just on the expensive tape.

i make sure i circle all 3 dimensions, not jut the seams.

I'll have to echo what the others say about going in multiple directions around the package with tape. You almost can never use too much unless you are trying to keep the package under a certain weight. The reinforced paper tape is strong, and you can get it in different sizes if you are looking for a certain width.

I'll agree with Nate, the duck brand clear packing tape is some pretty good stuff, you can never have enough...I get mine at an annual neighborhood yard sale for little cheaper though (6 rolls for $5)
