The huge rim that make this coin very strange


Hi guys, found this 1940 while sitting at home sorting my wheaties into year rolls.
What is up???? Never seen this before? Any ideas?
The penny is larger than the others..Approx. .805 at its largest. and has basically a rounded rim.

Any ideas? Need more info?
Sorry about the pictures..my camera died and this was done with a cheapy digital microscope that I still need to learn how to use. lol

P.S. more than willing to sent to an established member to check out for themselfs.

My guess would be jewelry. Some type of bezel.

You know Kurr, never thought of that .
Makes sense but the open rim makes it strange to me.

The open part might be where the ring to attach to a chain was formed and subsequently broke off or was removed.

Again I am just shooting wild here.

Yep, that's a bezel for jewelry. Get some pliers and break it off.
