Tried to search here and at the old site and found a lot of references to the vinegar/salt soak, but not anything specific.

What is the solution ingredient proportions? Say for a pint?
How long?
Scrubbing?
Is there an easier alternative?
I have found a few that were so cruddy that I could only tell the coppers by weight, but I've questioned some that were so bad that they may have had so much on them as to give a false positive.

Keep in mind that I don't care for numismatic value, these are my bullion hordes and to be done in bulk.

I was using a pint of vinegar and a couple teaspoons of salt. CLR works great and faster right out of the jug and can be reused over and over.
It also keeps my basement from smelling like a pickle barrel. LOL

it would be easier to send them back into the wild. Or save them as Ugly Abe's in a seperate box....

Copper is copper to me, i chunk them in with the rest.

Unless they are just so hideous that I dump them with the zincs.

A good wheatie would be worth a gentle cleaning to me, if it didnt harm the value.

Okay, maybe I'm mis-informed about this. I was under the impression that verdigres can transfer from one coin to another. I store my coppers in the $25 boxes in 15# lots. I don't want to open them up 10 years from now and have a chalky green lump!!!!!!

The CLR takes the green tint away but the crud is still there unless I rub it away and with 2500 coin batches thats just way too much effort. If I can just box them up and not worry about it thats cool with me.

put them in a jug with the clr or the vinagar/salt let them soak then shake the jug this should get the crude off from the friction of the coins rubbing against each other.

So is that the consensus, vertigres is contagious?

If so,I certainly wont put the fugly abes with my good copper anymore.

Yes, verdigris can positively spread from coin to coin. I have done research on it. It's called contact verdigris. Always keep verdigris contaminated coins away from the non-verdigris coins.
