To the best of my knowledge the new (2010) reverse of the shield has replaced the Lincoln Memorial on the US Penny.

From your post, it almost seems as if you are thinking the US Penny is history.
But it is just the LM reverse on the penny that is history. The wheat ears from 1909 - 1958, then 1959 - 2008 of the LMC, then the four special reverses for the 2009 year, then 2010 brought us the new shield reverse.

Posted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 12:38 pmI believe I read that the shield would be the design for at least the next 25 yrs. After that, congress can authorize a new design if they wish.

Yeah I think it is 49 years to coincide with Lincolns 250th Birthday in 2059.
