The worst!

As you all know.. I am a hand sorter, and in a moment of senility, I took a handful of zincs and dropped them in the copper...uggh!

So I dumped all of them onto the table, and now am resorting the pennies...

I HATE when this happens! :x

Yeah that's irritating, especially when you try to dump them back out and they all fall to the bottom.

Pretend it never happened and when you are resorting your mostly-copper pile you will be excited about the 90% copper :)

I've done that several times. Pain in the ...
Worst thing is having to go through several hundred copper to pull 10 zincs.

that is why I now keep a 16oz plastic cup on my sorting table. I throw my coppers into the cup until it's about half full, then dump it into a bigger container of coppers.
If I accidentally throw something into the cup it's no big deal to get it back out.

Worse than co-mingling zincs with coppers is if you rub your eye, scratch somewhere or lick your fingers while doing the hand sort. Anyone ever do a lab culture to see what sort of viruses, dirt or other contaminants actually live in the crud on cents? Disgusting.

I have done it before. It is tough on the brain after all that precision sorting. But the end reward is worth it. There is a very satisfied feeling when your done and you have your final pile of copper. Chin up and keep sorting!

That's pretty much the same thing I do. :D

I think you just didn't want to go to the bank to get more pennies to sort.. so you did this on purpose so you could resort the pennies you already had.

Yes, I did the same thing when I was handsorting. You usually relize just as the zincs leave your hand. This is where having a Ryedale or 2 sitting around can really be handy.

One time while taking a break from handsorting, my at that time toddler boys got into the piles and decided to mix them up! Zincs, Coppers, "S" Pennies, Wheaties: I just through my hands up and laughed! In their world they were "helping".

Yes...don't sweat it. Just stop what you are doing. Take those mixed up cents and put them away for a time when you have "0", nothing, nada, and zilch to search. You're going to run into situations where you wish you had ANYTHING to go through.

Rule #1:

Always have a reserve stash for emergency situations. Or, you will go freakin' nuts.

Maybe Hoard can post a picture of his emergency reserve.

Good luck with your new addiction.

How about the cat? How many sorters have a cat that swats coins around? My son brought home a kitten that was going to end up in a bad way... its favorite game is

"Knock the pennies onto the floor"

Yep, my two "basment cats" love to climb and knock over whatever they can and not just on the coin table. I never know what I'm gonna be cleaning up when I go down there. They're little angels when I'm around :P
