So how much in pounds or face value do you consider a respectable cent copper hoard? No doubt there will be many different opinions. Let’s start the conversation

1/2 ton. 1000 lbs is a nice round number.

You did say "hoard". Anything up to that is more like "a whole bunch"

It depends on the persons income and time. I respect anyone who is trying to be proactive in preparing for their future.

So Anyone collecting has my respect. :)

Having said that, you need at least a ton to be big time....i'm not big time. :(

Any amount is respectable, as it shows you have enough forethought to be looking after your futre. :)

The more the better, obviously, but just have what you can afford/store I say. Same goes for all PMs.

I don't have a scale... That and other factors leads me to believe I only have a "whole bunch."

I think a ton is respectable... Two tons is better.

10-15K of pickups and dumps to produce the one ton hoard calls for respect.

So I vote one ton. Anything beyond that is even better.

Where do I fit in with my whopping 15 pounds?

And another question... Assuming you had ZERO Au/Ag... How much Cu should one keep on hand?

If all you got is 15 pounds of COPPER (145*15=21.75), you need to sort as much as you can from now on. Your hoard will grow!

$2940 is approximately 1 ton of copper pennies.

A respectable amount is different for every person. Just remember you can never have enough!

I think the 3040 is for a ton of copper, not a ton of pennies, just guessing. Each penny is only 95% copper, so if you have a ton of pennies, you have 5% of it as zinc.

We need to define the terms "respectable", "admirable" and "enviable" :)

I agree... Anyone who has any amount of copper pennies sorted for their metal content would be respectable in my books... Then there are the others who have a ton or two... and then there are the others who deal in tons.

respectable is to admirable like a chicken egg is to an ostrich egg
admirable is to enviable like an ostrich egg is to an elephant egg

As for my stack, let's see... respectable, admirable, or enviable... hmmmmm...... I'll go with pitiful

Can't ever have enough, right?

I think most of us just use $3,000 face per ton for copper cents. That's the way I buy them if buying by weight.

I think any amount you can't actually lift is respectable. Thowing out your back by trying to lift too much is not respectable.

respectable - working on the hoard weekly hand sorting a box or more.

admirable - Having one or more Machines for penny work, a spare room or space dedicated to the venture, pulling a $100 or more face a month from circ. Selling a little.

enviable - Having a industrial sorter, a website, storage facilities, and pallets of sorted coin for your base metal business. Selling by the ton.

Convert it all to gold or silver. They are easier to transport, if the need arises

HERE IS MY TAKE...

Respectable...filling a 55 gallon barrel o pennies

Admirable....A full 55 gallon barrel o pennies

Enviable...being able to move the Admirable
