How do you develop relationships with banks?

I'm curious how you guys get a *in* with banks, and get CWRs from them? I've been trying to talk to the right person/people at my local bank branches, and just don't seem to get anywhere or find the right person.

Its all about finding the right teller. I have two different ones calling me now from two branches of Chase bank when they get them in. Ask about leaving your name and number. You might get lucky.

Smiles,be kind. You have to stand out from the usual customer. It could take some time,so be persistent. Then when you find a teller who will be accommodating, cement it with some candy, chocolates work wonders.Sometimes I bring a teller a coffee for a few bags of cents and halfs when they fill a bag.I even bought pizza once for a branch.
I like to do little things now and then. But I enjoy it. Even if you think that its too costly, compared to paying fees,or paying for a service like brinks, its very cost effective.

Kids, pictures of kids!

I have brought up in the past that my son and I sort coppers but to the banks it is stated that my 7 year old and I collect coins. Its all in how you present it. I show pictures of my son with whitman books open and looking at coins (which he does) and from time to time he goes with me to my dump bank to put change in the free counter.

I can not tell how many times I have gotten female tellers to say "ahhh... how sweet."

My latest picture is not of him but the cake he instructed my wife to make for my birthday.

When the ladies ask,"What are you doing with all these pennies?" Out comes the phone and the picture show starts. After the second or third picture, it is pretty much a sealed deal and they just fork them over. And sometimes go out of their way to get more or extras!

Now it does not work on all tellers but 95% is a good number.
Bank tellers will do more for a kid then most of their customers from what I have seen. You can walk in there solo and get a little or none or play the kid card and get some penney boxes to sort.

Heres the lastests pic. I am really proud of him for coming up with the idea. Oh sure its a little off and faces the wrong direction but it was the best part of my last birthday. Correction, Abe is facing the right way, it is me that that is backwards, sorry, how embarrassing!!

Good Luck!!

That's one cool cake! And who says ABE is facing the wrong way? Isn't that the reverse of an obverse? 8-)

Forget the regular tellers. Branch managers, head tellers, or higher are the ones that have the power. Money in the bank or credit union always helps, but so do bribes. Many use chocolates, but I have a dump branch that loves seeing me because I drop off the coins to be counted and then I go and get them all drinks. No, not alcohol, hehe.

Plenty of face time in the branch, while having a great attitude goes a long way. Banks are hit and miss. One branch might be accommodating, while the one across town may not.

Deal

Abe is facing the right way! My fault I have been looking at too much silver lately and getting all cross eyed. Yep, feel free to steal or share the cake idea. Keep stacking!

I agree. Kids are the way to all coins from a bank. I opened multiple bank accounts and Cds at some of the pick up banks to help out when they ask if you have an account. Once you start striking up nice conversation (weather, kids stuff) with the tellers, they usually start asking if they want to order coin for you. I usually play nice and tell them I do not want to take their coin supply for the weekend but as you become a regular they know!

Kids really do work! My 12 year old is very helpful. And my 3 year old can crack the most miserable of tellers.
She says "I'm a collector you know!" She has had tellers laughing so hard they cry, along with myself.
If all other efforts fail, have one of your own, borrow, babysit,or rent a child :)
How can a teller deny a child some coins?

that cake idea is great. how I do it is stop in as much as possible. instead of making larger deposits, make smaller ones more often

Take what they want to get rid of. At many banks I take all the CWR they get.. so they never have to ship. Today I picked up 1,048 baby dollars from one of my regular branches. They had been saying all these new presidential coins they corporate office always sends out are taking up too much vault space.

Nice! It's the bank teller that keeps on giving. :) Also, you get to give her some of your own rolled coin as well.
