Saw this on coinflation

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03 ... nse-penny/

With these guys posting news about it, should we be concerned that the word is going to get out and LESS pennies will be available for us in the very near future?

We should worry when some company starts advertising "Premium Grade Copper Bullion" on Fox News.

Been behind since I started and just can't catch up or get the size of hoard I think I need/want. Yes, faster is better!

I read this article a little while ago. I laughed when I saw the 7 billion in melt value of pennies figure. One would think that the average thinking person (note I said thinking) would want something that is worth more than it costs.

I'd say yes... time to step it up. EVERYONE: WE are NOT the only one's who are aware of this! The question is this: when will the avg person start doing what we are doing? I think MANY people are aware of the value of the Cu penny... it's just that they don't care enough about it just yet. When they do... and I think it will be around the 4.5 cent mark... there won't be enough Cu's around to make us hand sorters worth it anymore.

Just remember... this HAS happened before (with silver). DON'T forget that! We are not doing something new here! The only difference is that we have advanced communication capabilities compared to when this happened last. THAT'S about it IMHO!

Most people that saw or read this story won't put much stock into it. Some will start picking coppers out of their change and toss em aside. A few will take a roll here and there and load up the coffee can. Maybe one person is considering filling a 55 gal drum. Just keep on sorting and hoarding. ;)

I'm not worried yet.But I did pick up a $50 bag from a bank coin counter that was all zincs this week,a few others were very light on copper. People are starting to wake up. Hope they find it too hard and move to nickels :)

I honestly think that many of us over forty crowd just can't see the dates well enough to fool with them, and average Americans don't know the difference between the copper and the zincs. I think I might have mentioned it once before, but I think one reason why the Feds keep pennies in circulation is to keep our economic minds focused on trifles. We will divert our driving patterns in order to arrive at a certain gas station to save a few cents, all the while our Federal Reserve is "losing" 9 Trillion Dollars it cannot account for. I love sorting pennies, but lets face it: Our Forefathers would not have allowed 1/100 of a cent (which is roughly what our current Lincoln is worth in terms of buying power pre-Federal Reserve) to circulate as widely as ours do. Enjoy the sort! But as for a desire on the part of our government to save millions of dollars by changing the composition of our beloved cent, first the former should manage its billions better that it confiscated from us!

I knew about pennies since 2006 or earlier, but just started hoarding them 3 weeks ago. I was speending all my money on silver and then I got some Nickels.

Only when i started reading here did I decide to mess with pennies, and there are several "myths" that will keep even the average Silver/gold/ coin hoarder out of copper.

1. Myth 1. There is not many copper pennies left. Lot of people think that the pre zinc pennies are hard to find and they will never get enough to make a difference.

2. Myth 2. The pennies are hard to sort. They believe that it's just going to take too long to sort enough pennies to make a difference.

3. Myth 3. It's going to take up too much room to store all those pennies. The envision a ton of pennies taking up the spare bedroom.

4. Myth 4. They can't be melted, so they will never be worth more than a penny. This one bothers me the most, because 0% silver trades above face value everyday without being melted. A copper penny has intrinsic value equal to the amount of copper in it. It would be like saying a Silver Eagle wouldn't be worth it's silver Value unless you melted it.

It was Andrew Lin's video, that shows how little room a ton of copper takes up, that got me to finally start hoarding.

Why worry? That will just increase the price of our wonder metal. In that case, you better get sorting!!!!

You rascal, stay out of my bank :)
If my pickup bank had $1100 in cents I'd be suspicious.
Now I have to weigh all my bags :(
