I found a cent and thought it was a dime

Over the last couple of months, I have started going on long walks all over the city. As I'm out walking, my eyes are invariably drawn to the glint of shiny discarded treasures on the pavement. I find loose change all over the place - a few coins per day on average.

Quite often, the coins I find are in very rough shape. They have been run over by traffic for who knows how long and can be scratched, bent, dented, flattened, etc. - but mostly scratched - very, very scratched - like sandpaper to the touch.

A few weeks ago, I found a shiny coin on the ground that I thought was a dime. I don't take my reading glasses with me on these walks and I can't make out any details on the scratched up surfaces on most of my treasure finds. When I got home, I put on my glasses and saw that what I had found was actually a cent that was so worn from cars/trucks running it over that the copperish plating had been stripped away. The metal looked like a dime, but the design was a scratched up cent.
