I don't see how the date could possibly be post mint damage. No sure about the "clip" at two o'clock, though.

Very weird. You might have a jackpot.

Looking at it with 150% magnification...You can see some sort of weird depression to the immediate upper left of the weird looking "1". Maybe there was a lamination type probem with the planchet? Catastrophic die failure? Aliens?

Sucks that it has such a massive rim ding! If you use your loupe or magnifying glass and you don't see any scratching or tools marks than it is most likely an error and should get sent in for verification.

Have seen many 1941's like this. Post mint damage. It is neat looking!

The damage looks so clean. Or, is it that the anomaly cannot be explained.

I'm with Thogey, I'd like to know how that number got shifted over like that, and it looks like it runs "under" the 9. Strange.
