At Last...a Decent Bag!

Went to my only weekly bag (1) pick-up. They had one ready for me and another one just $8 away. This is so cool. I take the one bag and let them know I'll be back tomorrow for the second one. As I get to the truck, I look into the canvas bag and see..........WHEATS!

My average wheats from this bank is usually between 15 to 20 for the entire $50 bag. I can see right away that this is above the average! This a copper run, usually a good percentage. 25% to 33%!

After testing a couple of handfulls, I want to predict at least 100 wheats. This is no monster bag but it's the best one from this bank. The old best bag gave me 4 IH's in awesome (VF+) condition.

I'm going to check out the bag later for the wheats before I run them through the Ryedale.

I got so excited I went back this morning and bought the other bag. I looked into the canvas bag....more wheats!

This bag is not as loaded, though! But again, will be alot more than the usual average!

So far, I have seen a 1909 (1st one this year), 1913,1917,1919x2,1925,1926,1929x2,1934,1935,1935D, and a 1936. That's 13 pre-1940's alone.

I'll update this thread later with results.

Nice score! Mind if I ask what bank sells $50 bags? The banks I pick up from have only ever given me string boxes. Unless it’s a credit union then I get loose CWR's. I would like to find these $50 bags so i don't have to unwrap them; you know it wastes so much time.

Yes,you have to explain yourself to the head teller, tell them you're a coin collector, and its easier to go thru the bag than open rolls-plus youre saving the bank money in rolling fees. They will think youre nuts, and either say yes or no.I get bags from some branches of my chain, while other branches of the same chain will not sell them.In one case it was clearly just the fact the teller did not want to carry the bag,in other words,if they see it as extra work, and think youre a kook, they're gonna say no.

This was a "Horizon" bank. Funny thing is their other local branches won't sell me the bags. Claiming company poilicy.

I forgot about the Canadian coppers, too. I see lots of them including 3 George VI's.

Been to over 100 banks/branches and only '1' will sell me the bags! Don't have an account either!

I always wonder how people find indian heads. In michigan I've been getting a consistant 33% copper for 2 years, but I've never gotten an IH or a george v. In fact in the about 5 to 7K face I've sorted I have only gotten about 1 roll worth of pre 1940's wheats. Of course it's better to get 33% copper than a IH worth 1 dollar I guess.

That's a great bag. Wish we could do the same around here in CA, but none of the banks have coin counters period. When I first got here, I called every bank in town (and then some), plus 2 towns away. NOBODY has coin counters, which really stinks. :(

Went throught the 2nd bag....wanting to save the better one for today. Looks like good copper numbers but low numbers of wheats and canadians. 20 wheat and 11 canadian coppers.

Going to do the good bag after lunch. The Ryedale is hungry and I don't think $100 is going to be enough.

Ended up with 127 total wheats for the 2 $50 bags. 20 wheats in bag #2 and 107 :D in bag #1!

My best bag so far!

Fantastic! That's a great score. Hopefully, you got some teens/20s in there too, with that many wheats. I think my best wheat score was 20 from $50.00 in CWRs.

I posted the pre-1940 wheats in the pre-1940 tracking thread. I did get a few teens. (1909P :D ,1913,1917x3,1918,1919x4) I got a 1926D, too. Not a semi-key but my 2nd ever of this year/mint in over 1,000,000+ pennies searched. I've found more 09's,09VBD's, and other semi-keys.

My copper % was 31.09%. This includes 127 wheats and 22 canadian coppers. That leaves 2,960 coppers for the pile.

This by far they best way to go. I found over 400 wheats one time (all 40-50s). Needless to say I only did that once, but percentages seem much higher in the bags.
