I have nightmares about my banks shutting down the free coin counters in their lobbies. Every time I go in to dump a bunch of coins I expect the manager to tap me on the shoulder and say " excuse me sir but we are going to have to ask that you do not dump anymore coins at our bank". As long as the machines are in their lobby and open to the public I don't know if they can just ban me but I hope I never find out. If that were to happen It would pretty much shut me down.

Can't you find some others anywhere? Tuscon is a BIG place isn't it? There are a few small local banks here that have them only the downtown branch or such; it might be worth a call to find out if it's like that there.
wishing you the best of luck....

It probably won't be that long until zinc pennies are worth more than a cent. What will we do with them then?

They're already selling for $5.99/lb:

A pound of zincs is $1.81 isn't it? Might as well hoard the zincs until the melt ban is lifted. Especially since banks are starting to charge more and more to get coins in the first place.

The more pennies we hoard, the less in circulation, and the more new ones the mint has to produce...thus shortening the time before the ban might be lifted. :D

That works.

How about, when your bank shuts you off because they say, due to Brinks' fuel surcharges it's costing them $30 per box, you say, "I could sell you some for $28..."

I have to drive 50 miles to get to work.. but there are hundreds of branches of the banks I have accounts at between home and work. Someday I will have to start hitting some of those in the middle rather than just working both ends.

cwgii.. I thought when things get unfriendly you just pack up the motor home and move to a better location. Most of us don't have the luxury of changing our location that easily. I don't really have any banks with "free" counting machines.. other than the CoinStar at my CU, which is only open when I am at work.. so I guess I can't lose them.
