Why?

Why can I not find either a 1954 or a 1955-s? If I had these coins, I would have a complete set of 1940-2011.
I am finding plenty of pre-1940's with lower mintages (1911-d, 1916-d, 1921, 1927-d, 1928-d, 1930-s, 1932-d, many 1933's, 1934, 1938-d, just to name a few of the "rarer" ones).
I Ryedale sort $300-$400 a week, then handsort the Lincoln Memorials out. I catch every wheat, Canadian, or oddity.
What gives?
I did have some good luck today, a 1906 Indian! This was my second of the year, along with a 1907. The 1907 was found within my first $350 of starting this addiction.

I don't know why you are having trouble finding those 1955-S cents.. could it be the mintage? Or could it be that I am hoarding them. I have 30 rolls of circs and 1 roll of BU's.

What do you know...Sorting $75 in cents today and finally found a 1955-s in nice shape. Maybe I should start a thread how I can never find a Flying Eagle cent.
Keep up the sorting folks.

You only think you want a "buzzard cent" You don't really want one. Actually, 1 was found by another sorter. The oldest I have found is an 1859 Indian.

How clean does the water have to be?
This is sounding more and more tempting. Seems I don't have enough time to sort as much as I want. That darn day job keeps interfering with my sorting time. I just got home from work a little while ago.

Why don't I want one? I mean I already have one, but finding one in the wild? Why not? Are they bad luck or a bad omen?

We don't even have any sort of feathered dance to summon them. When they first came out they didn't have a cent worth of copper in them. They replaced Large Cents.. which actually had a full .01 worth of copper in them. There was public outcry that the avian depiction on the obverse more closely resembled a buzzard than a noble eagle.

I've found 2 1954's in the past week. I don't know why it took about $4500 in pennies to find the first one, but now I've got two.
