Copper Proofs

How does one tell a copper proof from a nice AU copper Lincoln?
Yesterday, I found a 1974 S with a nice deep strike and a mirrored background. I am thinking that it is a proof, but how does one know?

If it has a mirror like background than it most likely is a proof. AU/Bu coins will "shine" but they don't really reflect the light like a proof should.

Awesome, thanks for the input. I am kind of excited now. Any idea how much more a circulated proof is worth as compared to a normal coin of the same year? Maybe it is just worth saving in my cool finds collection.

To the right person $0.50 to $2 or so. It all depends on shape and condition and everything. Either way its a nice find.

It's crazy how proofs can be seen in the wild occasionally. I've personally pulled a 70s proof penny and two Kennedy half proofs from rolls.
