solid wheat rolls

Postby knibloe » Fri May 20, 2011 10:14 pm

My penny sorting has ground to a stand still in the last year. However, I had a hankering for some pennies this week, and knew I should buy some, but as of this morning had not done so.

I went to pick up my half order and the customer in front of me was an older woman turning in coins, pennies to be precise. I asked to buy the excess pennies and was sold them, $20 worth.

As I was opening them for sorting, I noticed that two of the rolls were marked "wheat." Sure enough, they were solid wheat rolls. I have heard of this, but never had the pleasure before. Made my day. Now I know why I felt the need to buy pennies this week.

Well...what kind of wheat score did you get...any good dates or BU coins?

I've yet to score something like that...heck I can't even find an "ender" anymore! :x

I went camping with my son's Boy Scout Troop this weekend, so I didn't get the pennies sorted. By the looks of them, they looked like they might be around 50% Cu.

As for the wheats, there wasn't anything special in them. The oldest was a 1916. There were a few from the 30's and the rest were the 40's and 50's. There were a few nicer coins, but nothing that I would classify as BU.
