I was just wondering what all you guys do with the Canadian cents you find. Since i'm hoarding 95% Lincolns, shouldn't I keep the 98% Canadians in there own special "pile"?

If/when the melt ban gets lifted 95% and 98% will both be classified as #2 copper as far as recyclers are concerned. I keep 'em all together.

I separate them. 1982-1996 get rolled together; 1980-1981 get rolled together; 1978-1979 get rolled together; and 1953-1977 get rolled together. Pre-1953s are very scarce in my neck of the woods.

I do the same as Country only I roll the 78-79s with the earlier cents as the difference between them is so small. I do keep the 80-81s separate and the 82-96s.

Since I hand-search, I don't have time to roll or separate my finds. All silver dimes, as well as Canadian & British coins go into an empty penny box with the name of Mrs. shinnosuke on it. All other foreign coins and pizza parlor game tokens, etc. go into a jar with my youngest son's name on it. He's 8 and does not yet realize that he is a coin collector.

I definately keep the canadians seperate. I don't have enough to bother sorting them, maybe some day. For now all foreign coins just go into a jar.

I roll the pre 1953, 1953 to 1968, 1969 to 1979, and 1980 to 1996. I get a lot of Canadian pennies here in Western NY.

We tube them all by date and type some of the steel one are rare. I use sorting to keep my son Franklin busy he has autism. After a year of sorting we have a few full rolls of cu a roll would be 50 of the same date and type and have yet to get a full roll of zinc/steel ones. Here is a link for prices on the cents.

Depending on where you go the 98% could be classified as #1.

I sort Elizabeth II copper pennies into the following categories:

1953-1964 98% copper, 0.5% tin, 1.5% zinc, first EII portrait;

1965-1977 98% copper, 0.5% tin, 1.5% zinc, second EII portrait; and,

1978-1996 98% copper, 1.75% tin, 0.25% zinc.

I dont like to separate them. As long as they are all copper, I just send them to TXBullion to get more cash to buy more cents to sort or silver!

I guess it depends on what you are looking to do with them as your exit strategy, sell to a numi buyer, bullion buyer.....

Thanks for your input everybody. Yea, Tex, I guess that is what it all boils down to ain't it? numi or bullion...now that those damn trees are out of the way..lol

I sift out the lower fineness US pennies and anything with a king on it. After that I keep all the copper Canuck cents together to be sold by weight.
