Penny Arcade reject tray holiday Bonanza

I don't know how they stay in business. First, my penny count was $51; according to the count ticket, my bag of cents only also contained 2 halves, 5 quarters, 7 dimes and 2 nickels :P

Then, the reject tray yielded 14 cents, 2 nickels, 12 dimes, 10 quarters, 1 SBA dollar, couple foreigns and 2 lithium batteries :P

$6.99 free money...a personal best on the Arcade.

If you count Canadian coins off the magnet, I have beat that 6.99 quite a few times. I had a run of 5 dumps in a row last month where I was ahead $5+ on each dump because the magnet was chock full each time. Unfortunately I am now on an equally long streak of less than a dollar per dump right now. It is now fun for mento dump in the penny arcade because of the potential to cash in. It's like getting free lottery tickets.

You guys are lucky. The highest value I ever got was when I found a $2 austrailian coin.

OK, sorry to rub it in, but I just had a great dump run. Dumped just under $200 face of nickles and zincs. Penny arcade netted $4.90 in Canadian including 2 of the .99 nickles. Also got a Australian dollar and a chuck-e-cheese coin for the kids. I was pretty happy about that haul! Then when I went up to the counter to cash in my receipt, I noticed a stack of halves in the tellers tray and what looked like a couple of solid edges in there. Asked him if I could buy the halves and he was happy to get rid of them. Got 2 shiny 1964's!

That got me so excited that I could not help but stop at another bank on the trip home to ask for havles. I could not help myself. Got 2 clads for a buck. They'll get dumped in the penny arcade tomorrow.

Where do you guys find these machines?

I'm tired of re-rolling my zincs, and Coinstar is a rip!

Is this at your local banks/do you have an account there?

TD Bank. They are all throughout the Northeast I think, maybe further. Check their website for branch locations. www.tdbank.com You have to have an account to use their machines for free otherwise I think they charge 6% or so.

Searched, and there are six in my area - only one with a Penny Arcade - but it's the one closest! About 3 miles away. Will make a visit on Friday. Considering getting back into cent sorting again, after 4 months all focused on silver (and gold). If I can get the bags, that may change things for me.

TD Bank has a contract with someone that maintains the penny arcades so they can't sell you bags from those lobby machines. BUT you might be able to find a TD branch that has a behind the counter machine (non-penny arcade model) and they should be able to sell you the bags. If they feel like it.

Signed up yesterday to a TD bank $100 minimum no fee account. They said their Penny Arcade isn't serviced by another company, that their bags go straight to the Fed, but I don't know if she really knew what she was talking about. They were just taken over recently and just opened with the new logo 3 weeks ago, so most of these people are new to TD bank. At any rate I now have a free coin counter that doesn't require me to send it to a gift card. :)

68Camaro, Glad to hear that you have a good dump bank now. Whatever the true reason is, I have been unable to get them to sell me bags from the Penny Arcade. I have tried many many branches and I believe that other RC'ers have as well. Oh well, now that all you guys know about this, I probably don't want those bags anyway :D

Were they really friendly at the branch that you went to? They are up here at every branch that I have seen. WAY friendlier than all the other banks in my area. Corporate must push them really hard about the importance kissing the customers ass.

They were almost way overboard friendly. Almost out of the associates comfort zone friendly. Started to rain and they walked me out to the car with an umbrella!

That's funny, I have seen the umbrella's in the lobby before and wondered what the story was with them. I have never seen them walk anyone out though. I would have to decline the escort because if they saw in my truck they would have a lot of questions about all the boxes of coins!

And I know what you mean about the comfort zone thing. More than once when they were changing bags or clearing a jam in the penny arcade I could see in their eyes that they were annoyed, but they only had nice things to say about the Penny Arcade. I always try to get them to admit that they dislike the machines. So far only one admitted that she liked to old behind the counter machine better, and she said it very quietly.

I have never even heard the TD tellers bash on rude or obnoxious customers after they leave the bank. Most other banks that I have been to I have overheard snide remarks about customers after they leave. I always wondered what they must say about me after I leave. At TD they must really let loose once they lock the doors for the night though.

Just did my first mini-dump as a test. The people remembered me from yesterday and insisted they help show me the Penny Arcade. I played the game they offer where you get a gift if you guess within 1.99 of the total. Of course I guessed well, and they were amazed. :) Little did they know that I know *exactly* how many pennys I'm dumping. ;)

Of course the gift was only a TD luggage tag, but... I may end up with a lot of TD luggage tags if this continues.

I wondered what that guessing game prize was. I could attach those luggage tags to the handles of my copper buckets, sort of like a vault ticket.

I'd have had about 50 of them by now.

I am checking out the closest TD banks to me in FL tomorrow or next week, and if they are in Denver too, I am opening an account...

The one closest to my house isn't built yet :(, so I'll have to go on an adventure...it sounds like a sweet set-up!
