Dri slide drying out?

Postby gojomoso » Wed Jul 13, 2011 7:16 pm

I used one drop about 1 month ago when I got the machine, since then it has had the cap on sitting near my Ryedale. I tried to use it today and nothing came out. Can the dry slide solvent literally dry out?
(I sent this as an email to Andy, but i know business hours are not all day, and realcent members are on all hours of the day)

I had the exact same thing!

what does a new bottle cost? I have heard some say the bottle lasts forever, and i used it maybe 5 or 6 times and the bottle was dry.

You're only sorting enough pennies to need 1 drop in month?

Well there's your problem. ;)

As I understand it, the "lube" is micro particles and the liquid just an application carrier. It is designed to evaporate fairly quickly.

Not knowing exactly what is going on here, but I'll take a stab. it could be that if the bottle isn't closed tightly, it could be the solvent carrier, which is like mineral spirits, or Naphtha, is evaporating away, and the black "good stuff" is being left in the dropper.
I presume this is happening with the small sample bottles and not the larger 4oz from Ironbraid, Russack or Amazon right??

A person could unscrew the cap, (use gloves here) pop the little dropper insert in the tiny bottle, and then "re-hydrate" the black moly with either mineral spirits, or Naphtha. Both solvents are available in small quantities at a good hardware store. DO NOT use turpentine, Acetone or Lacquer thinner as they will melt the plastic parts.

My Dri-slide is in a aerosol can.

Just shake it like a can of spraypaint and go!

The same exact thing happened to me, used my bottle of dri-slide about 7 times, then went to use it and got nothing. I talked to Andy about ordering more, but I put it off. Then yesterday I had $150 in pennies to sort, so I improvised and used chain saw bar oil. With using the bar oil on the SnP and wax paper on the little plastic slide, my machine never worked better. I also cleaned up the feed wheel and underneath it. I don't know if bar oil is wrong to use, but it worked wonders for me.

if you have a metal needle tip on your bottle. It could be clogged. If it is a clog you might try cutting down the tip to bypass the clog.

good luck

You might want to clean the SnP and use dri-slide. The oil will attract dirt and grime and gum things up.

The easy way to unclog the needle tip is with a small wire brush.
Push the tip in the brush a few times and one of the bristles will get in there and open things up.
This happens to me a few times a year.

The thread was called ryedale lubricants or something if I recall. I bumped it last time. I think we should sticky it or something but oh well.

http://www.ironbraid.com/driside.html is where I got mine at the recommendation of somebody here. Ran me about $18 I think with S&H for a 4oz bottle, which will essentially last you forever.
