Copper Pencentages

So I just got back from Portland, Oregon. Was there visiting family with my wife for a week. While we were there we picked up a box of pennies. One box I'm sure isn't a great sample but it's all I could find I'm afraid. The percentage came out to exactly 27% copper. This is a fair bit more than the 15 or so percent I've been getting in Texas.

I was thinking about it, and I was wondering if the fact that Oregon has no sales tax might affect the percentages, as pennies get a lot less circulation in comparison to other places when your total comes out to random numbers due to sales tax.

On a nice side note, I was unable to find a bank to dump the rest of the box, so I went to a coinstar and went for an amazon gift card as I'll eventually spend it. The machine had some trouble though and instead gave me my cash receipt with no charge. Kind worked out nicely. I of course brought the bag of coppers back home with me.

Seems like there is a line across the country - around the mason-dixon line. Above it, >25%. Below it, <25%

It varies anywhere from a low of 16% up to 40% per box.

Central Indiana:
Brinks plastic wrapped rolls: 25-30%
NF String: 30-35%
Customer wrapped: 35-40%

I know we're just talking about the wrapping paper, but my results are pretty consistent. Overall, I have a 30% average. I get about 6-10 wheats a box. Only found one indian so far and it was so corroded that you had to know what you were looking at to identify it.
