A TV ad alerted me to an Avon sponsored fundraiser. They are trying to raise $1.25 million in pennies for charity and to contribute you just deposit them at Scotiabank. If this works than Scotiabanks should be a good place to buy pennies from.

Story about the lady who had the idea:

Every Penny Counts
Give your pennies a purpose. This summer, the AVON Foundation for Women, in partnership with Scotiabank, will be asking Canadians to roll their pennies to benefit
The goal is to collect 125 million pennies, that's $1,250,000 in honour of Avon's 125th Anniversary.
Gather your pennies and start rolling.
Make sure they are identified with account number 80002 06366 14
Drop your pennies off at any Scotiabank location. To locate a branch near you www.scotiabank.com

Yeah, that's a good lead. Maybe get some folks scraping the bottom of their sock drawers and releasing a whole bunch of long lost Georges. Would be interested to hear the success stories if anyone follows up.

Do you have a merchant account and if you don't do they let you order pennies on a regular basis?

This is a sorter's dream!

Hopefully this isn't just a ploy by the government to collect all the hiding copper in order to melt it themselves

I would call the bank and try to make a deal with them. Its going to cost the bank a decent amount of money to take care of all the pennies. You could offer to pay them face value and probably get away with it.

This would be quite the score, if someone here could actually buy out the pennies coming in.

It seems like the coins are not going to be treated like normal after being deposited into the special account. So you would probably have to check banks weekly for pennies. I'd go around talk to a bunch of these locations and like HR said, try and set something up...
